DARPA and Boston Dynamics are developing a quadruped robot, named BigDog. This robot seems to almost perfectly simulate a quadruped animal. Its amazing to watch this robot simulate organic movement. BigDog can handle ice, climbing up, down hills, over rubble even counter trying to be kicked over. DARPA is developing this robot to act as a mule for troops who have to carry large amounts of equipment over long distances.
I bet the complexity and software in this bad dog is probably in the hundreds of thousands. I highly doubt DARPA wants this thing to carry ammunition. Also, if you fast forward to towards the end you can see that BigDog can almost gallop and jump obstacles in mid run. Attach a camera maybe even some weapons?
Another blogger pointed out a similar robot.. The AT-AT.

Oh were on to you DARPA, next were going to see lasers that can blow up planets.. DUN DUN DUN!
